The four specs that decide it
Pet turf lives or dies on numbers you can read off a spec sheet, which is why we publish full tables on every product page:
- Drainage rate, the odor spec. Urine that drains through instantly can’t sit and smell. Our FlowThru-backed EverPet 87 and EverFlow 88 move 1,000+ in/hr through a fully permeable backing; the rest of the catalog drains 50+ in/hr through perforated backing, which with proper base prep serves most households.
- Tuft bind, the digging spec. Force required to rip out a tuft; higher survives determined paws.
- Face weight, the traffic spec. The fence-line sprint path wears thin turf down; EverPet 87 carries a 60 oz face and the EverPlay line runs up to a 99 oz face for exactly this.
- Pile height, the cleanup spec. Shorter pile (1.25–1.5") picks up cleaner and brushes faster; save the plush 2" piles for low-dog zones.
Our actual picks, by household
- Most dogs, most yards: EverPet 87, the purpose-built pet turf. A 1.25" D & C-blade pile that stands up under paws, Sanitized antimicrobial protection, FIFA Quality certification, and a fully permeable FlowThru backing that drains 1,000+ in/hr.
- Big dogs, multiple dogs: EverPlay 130 for our most cushioned, resilient pile (a 99 oz face at 2"), or EverFlow 88 when whole-yard drainage leads the spec.
- Kennels, runs, daily-use potty areas: EverPet 87 again; the short pile picks up clean and the full-surface drainage hoses spotless.
- Showpiece front yard that also hosts a dog: EverFlow 88, the lawn-look Mini S-blade pile riding the same 1,000+ in/hr FlowThru backing.

The infill truth, and the honest caveats
The part most pet-turf marketing skips: infill choice matters as much as turf choice for odor control. Standard silica works for occasional-use lawns; dedicated potty areas deserve infills designed for ammonia control, in the quantity your product specs. Tell us it’s a dog project when you order and we spec both together. It’s the difference between a run that rinses fresh and one that fights you.
Caveats we’d want disclosed: turf surfaces run warmer than living grass in full summer sun (lighter colorways run cooler; shade and a quick mist handle peak hours), and the maintenance isn’t zero: a weekly hose pass on urine zones. Fifteen minutes that replaces re-sodding destroyed grass every spring; our pet owners call it the best trade in the yard.
