Cost & Buying Guide

What turf actually costs, and what moves the number.

No games: here is every factor in an artificial grass budget, why “free shipping” prices deserve suspicion, and how to get your real number in minutes.

1. The product: face weight is the price engine.

Artificial grass is priced primarily by what goes into it: ounces of fiber per square yard (face weight) and the fiber technology itself. That is why our catalog runs from the value-focused Evergreen 77 (77 oz) up to the ultra-dense EverPlay 130 (130 oz), with the Legacy realism line and EverPlay performance line in between. More fiber, taller pile, and multi-shape blade engineering cost more per square foot, and every EGD product publishes its full spec table so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

2. The roll math: you should pay for your yard, not a roll size.

Turf ships on 15-foot-wide rolls. A supplier who plans your cuts charges you for the length you need (plus the standard 3–5% overage for seams and trim); a supplier selling fixed rolls charges you for whatever is left over too. We map your cut plan across 15-ft rolls with every quote, so you pay for the turf your project actually needs.

3. Volume: discounts start at 500 sqft.

Most EGD products step down in price at 500+ sqft, others at 1,000+ (each product page lists its threshold). Contractors and dealers get dedicated pricing tiers on top; see contractor pricing and the dealer program.

4. Delivery: the number “free shipping” hides.

Freight on heavy rolls is real money, and suppliers advertising free or flat shipping have simply moved it into the material price. We quote it transparently instead: in California, our own trucks deliver in 24–72 hours with published zone rates($0–$99 depending on zone and order size, driver unloading included). Nationwide, you choose hub pickup (a forklift loads your trailer at one of 50+ freight-partner service centers, the most economical option) or door delivery, quoted to your exact ZIP. Turf and freight are always quoted together, so your budget number is the landed number.

5. Installation: the other half of a finished lawn.

Professional installation is priced by the installer and varies with site prep, access, base depth, and shape complexity. We refer vetted installers from our nationwide network free of charge, and if you are handy, our step-by-step installation guide shows exactly what the job involves before you decide DIY vs pro.

What a lawn gives back.

Cost has a second column: a natural lawn consumes 30–50 gallons of water per sqft per year plus mowing and fertilizing, forever. Run your own payback math on the savings calculator; for many projects the turf pays for itself well within its 16-year warranty.
