Why it looks like a mowed lawn.
The W blade is the workhorse shape in turf. Each fiber is extruded with a W-shaped cross section, which gives it three ridges running the length of the blade. Those ridges stiffen the fiber so it stands upright instead of flopping, and they break up reflected light so the surface reads matte from the street rather than shiny. On Evergreen 77 those blades are cut to 1.50 in., which is right in the range of a lawn mowed weekly.
The color story is deliberately quiet. Olive and field green are the two most common shades in cool-season grass, and blending them at a 9,000 denier face over a 4,000 denier curly thatch gives the pile depth without any single blade standing out. The 50 oz face is enough yarn to close the surface completely at 1.50 in., so you never see gaps, just an even sweep of green.
Who Evergreen 77 is built for.
Evergreen 77 is the sensible middle of the Evergreen line: rated for medium to high traffic, which covers the way most families actually use a yard. Kids crossing it daily, a mower-free front lawn, side yards, the strip between fence and patio. The 77 oz total weight keeps it soft enough to sit on while the W blade keeps it standing back up.
It suits nearly any climate. The woven PP backing with two polyurethane coats is perforated for 50+ in/hr drainage, so winter rain in the Northwest or a monsoon burst in Arizona passes straight through. If your yard is mostly looked at and regularly walked on, this is the one to start with; yards that take harder, more concentrated use have heavier siblings.
Right fit, wrong fit.
Choose Evergreen 77 for
- Front and back lawns walked on every day that need to look mowed without the mowing
- Buyers who want a true lawn green: the olive and field blend reads natural rather than bright
- Projects where the 1.50 in. height matters, like low-swinging doors, gates, or a clean transition to pavers
- Anyone who wants the lightest infill routine in the Evergreen line at 1.0 to 1.5 lbs per square foot
Look elsewhere when
- The space is a dedicated dog run: EverPet 87's permeable FlowThru backing rinses far faster than any perforated lawn turf
- You want a plusher, deeper lawn to show off: Evergreen 102 carries a full 102 oz build at 2.00 in.
- Dogs live on the lawn daily: Evergreen 82 adds a denser 82 oz build made for paws
Rolls, infill, and install notes
Evergreen 77 ships on 15 ft. wide rolls up to 100 ft. long, so a full roll covers 1,500 square feet and cuts come off the 15 ft. width; plan the layout so every piece runs the same direction, since the pile has a grain. Over a compacted 3 to 4 in. aggregate base, broadcast 1.0 to 1.5 lbs of infill per square foot and brush it in with a power broom, keeping seams off the main sight line from the house. The full walkthrough is on our installation guide, and the tool checklist covers everything you need before the roll arrives.
Pairings & the ladder
Inside the Evergreen line, Evergreen 77 sits alongside Evergreen 82, Evergreen 87, Evergreen 102, Evergreen 105. The climb is weight and density: more ounces per square yard means more blade per inch underfoot. Heavy pet traffic in part of the yard? Many customers split the space and run EverPet 87 (FlowThru) with its 1,000+ in/hr FlowThru backing in the dog zone.
Evergreen 77 FAQ
Asked about this product.
Is 77 oz heavy enough for a busy family lawn?
Yes, for normal lawn use. The 50 oz face at a 1.50 in. pile is rated for medium to high traffic, which means daily walking, kids and regular use across the whole surface. For concentrated wear in one spot, like a play set landing zone or a dog's patrol line along a fence, step up to Evergreen 82 or an EverPlay product.
Why does Evergreen 77 carry a FIFA Quality mark?
The construction was tested to the FIFA Quality program's durability and performance standards, the same independent testing used for soccer surfaces. You are not buying it to play matches on; the mark simply tells you the fiber has passed third-party abrasion and resilience testing rather than just looking good in a photo.
How does Evergreen 77 handle a real downpour?
The backing is perforated with evenly spaced drain holes and moves 50+ inches of water per hour, far more than any natural storm delivers, so water passes into the aggregate base and disperses. If your site has standing-water problems or a persistently wet climate, look at EverFlow 88, which drains through its entire surface.
