The case for the C blade.
Where the W blade is engineered for stiffness, the C blade is engineered for feel. Each fiber has a curved, half-pipe cross section, which makes it flex like a leaf spring: it bends underfoot, then the curve pushes it back upright. On Evergreen 87 those blades run 1.77 in. tall, and the combination of extra height and spring-back is what makes the lawn look untouched an hour after a party walked across it.
C blades also catch light differently. The curved face gives each blade a soft highlight down one side, closer to the gloss of a living blade of grass than the flat matte of a W. Blended across apple and clover green at a 60 oz face, that subtle sheen is what gives Evergreen 87 its dimension: the lawn shifts slightly in tone as you move around it, the way real turf does.
Front yards that work for a living.
Evergreen 87 is aimed at the yard everyone sees and everyone uses: the front lawn with a mail path worn through it, the strip the kids cut across, the patch between driveway and door. It is rated for high traffic, and the C blade's recovery means the busy routes do not telegraph themselves as flattened lanes.
At 87 oz total on a woven PP backing with two polyurethane coats, it handles any climate its siblings do, with 50+ in/hr drainage through the perforated backing. The taller 1.77 in. pile does ask a little more of you: it takes more infill to support, 1.5 to 2.0 lbs per square foot, and benefits from an occasional cross-brush to keep the blades fluffed. That is the trade for the depth.
Right fit, wrong fit.
Choose Evergreen 87 for
- Street-facing lawns where depth and natural light play matter more than a clipped look
- High-traffic yards that need blades to stand back up on their own between brushings
- Buyers who find short-pile turf too obviously synthetic: 1.77 in. reads as a thriving lawn
- Mixed-sun yards: the apple and clover pairing stays lively in shade without glowing in full sun
Look elsewhere when
- You want minimum upkeep and minimum infill: Evergreen 77 at 1.50 in. needs less of both
- Maximum realism is the brief: Legacy 97 layers tan thatch and heavyweight yarn for a more lifelike read
- The space is a play surface first: EverPlay 100's C-blade build is tuned for falls and constant kid traffic
Rolls, infill, and install notes
Evergreen 87 comes on 15 ft. wide rolls up to 100 ft. long (1,500 square feet per roll), and the taller pile makes grain direction visible, so run every piece the same way and point the grain toward the main viewing angle. Spread 1.5 to 2.0 lbs of infill per square foot; the 1.77 in. blades need that ballast to stand straight. Compact 3 to 4 in. of aggregate base first and power broom in stages as you fill. Our installation guide walks the whole sequence, and the tool checklist covers the brush, nails and seam gear.
Pairings & the ladder
Inside the Evergreen line, Evergreen 87 sits alongside Evergreen 77, Evergreen 82, Evergreen 102, Evergreen 105. The climb is weight and density: more ounces per square yard means more blade per inch underfoot. Heavy pet traffic in part of the yard? Many customers split the space and run EverPet 87 (FlowThru) with its 1,000+ in/hr FlowThru backing in the dog zone.
Evergreen 87 FAQ
Asked about this product.
Does the taller 1.77 in. pile flatten over time?
All pile settles where it is walked on; the question is whether it recovers. The C blade is curved specifically to spring back after flexing, and with the specified 1.5 to 2.0 lbs of infill per square foot supporting the base of each fiber, routine traffic stands back up on its own. A seasonal pass with a stiff broom against the grain handles the stubborn spots.
Is the slight sheen of a C blade going to look fake?
The opposite, in most light. Real grass blades are glossy; dead-flat turf is what tends to read as artificial. The C blade's curve throws a soft, moving highlight rather than a mirror glare, and the two-tone apple and clover blend breaks it up further. If you specifically want a fully matte surface, the W-blade Evergreens are the choice.
What does FIFA Quality mean on a front-yard product?
It means this exact construction passed the independent wear, resilience and safety testing FIFA requires of soccer surfaces. For a homeowner it is third-party proof of durability: the fiber has been machine-tested through thousands of traffic cycles. It does not change how you install or maintain the lawn.
