What deluxe actually means.
Evergreen 102 is where the line steps from durable lawn to deep lawn. The face carries 75 oz of W-blade yarn per square yard, half again as much fiber as Evergreen 77, cut to a full 2.00 in. That much material changes the physics of the surface: your foot sinks in before the blades push back, and the pile is dense enough that you cannot part it to the backing with your fingers.
The 9,600 denier W blades keep their three stiffening ridges, which matters at this height. Two-inch fiber with no structure would lie over by the end of the first summer; the W cross section plus a proper infill bed keeps it vertical. Field and apple green run brighter than the olive-based blends lower in the line, so the lawn reads lush and irrigated, with the 4,400 denier curly thatch filling any sightline to the backing.
For the yard that is the point.
This is turf for spaces built around being outside: entertaining areas, the backyard that hosts every birthday, the front lawn chosen to set off the house. It takes regular foot traffic comfortably; the depth is for presence and barefoot comfort, not fragility. Guests sit on it, kids roll on it, and it looks composed again by morning.
Construction is the same proven stack as the rest of the line: woven PP backing with two polyurethane coats, perforated for 50+ in/hr drainage, 16 year warranty. The costs of the extra height are practical, not structural. It wants 1.5 to 2.0 lbs of infill per square foot and a brush-up after heavy furniture, and low door clearances need checking before you commit to two inches of lawn.
Right fit, wrong fit.
Choose Evergreen 102 for
- Entertaining yards and showcase lawns where softness underfoot is a feature, not a bonus
- Buyers stepping up from builder-grade turf who want visible, obvious depth at 2.00 in.
- Bright exposures: field and apple green hold a lush, watered look in full sun
- Households that use the lawn plenty but do not run concentrated traffic down one lane all day
Look elsewhere when
- The lawn doubles as a games surface: Evergreen 105 carries the same 2.00 in. pile with FIFA Quality tested construction
- Realism beats plushness in your brief: Legacy 107 mixes W and C blades with tan accents at the same height
- Pets use the yard as a bathroom daily: EverFlow 88's fully permeable FlowThru backing makes rinse-downs far quicker
Rolls, infill, and install notes
Rolls run 15 ft. wide by up to 100 ft. long, so a full roll is 1,500 square feet; measure against the 15 ft. width and keep every piece running the same direction, because grain shows at this pile height. Budget 1.5 to 2.0 lbs of infill per square foot and install it in two or three passes with power brooming between, which is what gets 2.00 in. blades standing straight. Base prep is the usual 3 to 4 in. of compacted aggregate. The installation guide covers the sequence and the tool checklist covers the kit.
Pairings & the ladder
Inside the Evergreen line, Evergreen 102 sits alongside Evergreen 77, Evergreen 82, Evergreen 87, Evergreen 105. The climb is weight and density: more ounces per square yard means more blade per inch underfoot. Heavy pet traffic in part of the yard? Many customers split the space and run EverPet 87 (FlowThru) with its 1,000+ in/hr FlowThru backing in the dog zone.
Evergreen 102 FAQ
Asked about this product.
Is a 2.00 in. pile a maintenance burden?
It asks for a little more than short turf: a proper 1.5 to 2.0 lbs per square foot infill bed at install, and a cross-grain brushing a few times a year or after anything heavy sits on it. Day to day it behaves like any Evergreen. Leaves blow or rinse off, and the perforated backing drains 50+ inches per hour, so rain is a non-event.
How is Evergreen 102 different from Evergreen 105?
Both run the same 2.00 in. W-blade pile in field and apple green. The 105 carries more total weight (105 oz vs 102 oz), uses a heavier 10,100 denier face yarn and carries FIFA Quality certification, which makes it the pick for lawns that take moderate to heavy traffic. The 102 delivers nearly the same look for yards used a bit more gently.
Will I see the backing or thatch through the pile?
No. At 75 oz of face yarn on a 3/8 in. gauge, the blade rows sit close enough together that the surface closes completely, and the curly thatch layer fills the floor of the pile in green. Even parted by hand, you see thatch, not backing.
