Everything you need, nothing you don’t.

The honest equipment list, sorted by rent, buy, and skip.

Rent these (they earn their day rate).

All three live at any local rental yard or big-box tool counter; no special sourcing, no brand loyalty required.

  • Plate compactor: non-negotiable for base compaction; hand tampers are for corners only.
  • Sod cutter: turns a day of grass removal into an hour.
  • Power broom: stands the pile up and settles infill; the difference between finished and fluffed.

Buy these anywhere (generic, any hardware store).

Everything here is a commodity. Any hardware store or big-box aisle stocks them, house brands work fine, and there’s nothing turf-specific to get wrong:

  • Utility knife + a box of blades: you will change blades far more often than you expect; dull blades ruin cuts.
  • Drop spreader: even infill distribution; broadcasting by hand makes lumps.
  • Stiff push broom (synthetic bristle): grooming between power-broom passes.
  • The usual suspects: measuring tape, marking paint, gloves, knee pads.

Get these with your order (turf-specific).

These three are engineered for turf, sized to your project, and cheapest riding the same freight as your rolls, which is why we spec them with your order instead of sending you hunting:

  • Seam tape + adhesive: sized to your seam footage; we calculate it from your cut plan so you buy neither a seam short nor a case extra.
  • Turf nails & landscape staples: galvanized, in the lengths and quantities your perimeter and seams actually need; hardware-store bins rarely match.
  • Infill: the type and quantity are a product spec, not a guess (listed on every product page), and potty areas and putting greens each want their own.

One order, one delivery.

Tell us your square footage and layout when you build your quote (or ask us directly) and the seam tape, nails, and infill arrive on the same pallet as the turf, matched to its spec. It’s the difference between starting Saturday morning and spending it driving.

Skip these (pro gear, marginal DIY gain).

Turf stretchers, drop-in nail guns, and infill hoppers speed up crews doing daily volume. For one install, the rentals above plus patience cover it. Put the savings into extra base rock instead; nobody ever regretted a thicker base.
