What’s the difference between cheap and expensive turf?

Answered by Evan Benjamin: straight answers from 31+ years of combined industry experience.

The price gap is real engineering, not branding. Budget turf typically uses thin monofilament fiber, single-layer polypropylene backing, 40–50 oz face weights, a single shiny green, and a 5–8 year UV warranty. Premium turf uses UV-stabilized heavy-denier fiber blends, woven backing sealed with two polyurethane coats, 60–90 oz face weights, multi-tone color with natural matte finish, and UV warranties in the 15–20 year class.

Where you feel each difference: fiber chemistry decides whether blades stand back up or lie down for good; backing construction decides whether seams hold for a decade; face weight decides how the lawn handles traffic; and color science decides whether guests ask "is that real?" or don’t ask at all. Read a spec sheet with our guide and the price differences stop being mysterious.
