Can artificial grass be installed on a slope or hill?

Answered by Evan Benjamin: straight answers from 31+ years of combined industry experience.

Yes, and slopes are often the most grateful part of the yard to convert: they’re miserable to mow, hard to irrigate evenly, and the first place natural grass gives up. Turf on a grade follows the same build as flat lawn with three adjustments. Securement gets heavier: tighter perimeter nailing and additional field staples so the panel can’t creep downhill. The base gets compacted with extra care, because any base migration shows faster on a slope. And infill is applied with the grade in mind: on steeper pitches some infill works downhill over time, so plan an occasional brush-up as part of maintenance.

Gentle and moderate grades are well within DIY range using our installation guide. For steep banks, terraced yards, or slopes that meet retaining walls, an experienced crew earns its fee on the securement details; tell us about the site and we’ll refer vetted local installers free.
