The green that plays like the real thing.
EverPutt 81 is the premium surface in the putting line, and the difference starts with the yarn. Its texturized PP D-blades stand 0.75 in. tall on a tight 3/16 in. gauge with a 55 oz face and no thatch, and that texturizing matters: the crimped fiber grips the sand dressing evenly and kills directional grain, so a putt breaks because you read it that way, not because of which way the turf was brushed. Field and apple green give it the color of a maintained bent-grass green.
The deeper profile is the other half of the story. With more pile to work with, the surface accepts a bigger sand load, which means speed becomes something you set rather than something you accept. The woven PP backing with two polyurethane coats anchors the dense pile, drainage runs 50 or more inches per hour through the perforations, and the product carries FIFA Quality certification alongside PFAS-free and lead-free testing.
Tournament pace or family pace. You choose.
A backyard green gets two kinds of use: the serious golfer grinding on five-footers, and everyone else knocking balls around after dinner. EverPutt 81 handles both because its speed is tunable. Dress it lighter and the green rolls relaxed and friendly; fill the 0.75 in. pile toward the top of its infill range and it firms up to tournament pace. Same green, different setup.
The 0.75 in. pile is also simply more forgiving to live with than an ultra-short surface. It accepts chips and pitch shots with less bounce, feels softer underfoot for the barefoot putting contest, and keeps its looks as a landscape feature even when nobody is playing. For a green that anchors the backyard, this is the one we recommend.
Right fit, wrong fit.
Choose EverPutt 81 for
- Golfers who want green speed they can tune from relaxed to tournament pace
- Backyard greens that take real chip and pitch shots, not just putts
- Families who want one green that works for serious practice and casual play
- Showcase backyards where the green is a landscape feature year-round
Look elsewhere when
- You want the simplest, most compact practice green with minimal setup: EverPutt 65 keeps it fast and fuss-free at 0.50 in.
- The space is really a lawn with a golf habit: Evergreen 87 gives you a tall, realistic C-blade yard instead
- You are outfitting a gym, cage or training floor rather than a green: EverSport 105 is the performance surface for that
Rolls, infill, and install notes
Like any true green, EverPutt 81 is built from the base up: compact in lifts, screed smooth, and roll the base flat before unrolling the turf, since the ball will find any imperfection you leave behind. The 15 ft. roll width covers most residential greens without a seam; on larger builds, run seams across the fringe rather than through putting lines. Work 2 to 3 lbs of sand infill per square foot into the 0.75 in. pile in thin, brushed, rolled layers, putting as you go until the pace is where you want it; more sand means a firmer, faster green. The installation guide has the full build sequence and the tool checklist covers the tools worth renting for a green.
Pairings & the ladder
Inside the EverPutt line, EverPutt 81 sits alongside EverPutt 65. The climb is weight and density: more ounces per square yard means more blade per inch underfoot. Heavy pet traffic in part of the yard? Many customers split the space and run EverPet 87 (FlowThru) with its 1,000+ in/hr FlowThru backing in the dog zone.
EverPutt 81 FAQ
Asked about this product.
What does EverPutt 81 offer over EverPutt 65?
Depth and adjustability. The 0.75 in. texturized pile and 55 oz face accept a wider sand range than the 0.50 in. EverPutt 65, so you can tune speed instead of taking the pace the turf gives you. It also receives chip and pitch shots more softly and reads as a lusher green in the landscape.
How fast can EverPutt 81 roll?
Fast enough for tournament-pace practice when dressed toward the top of its 2 to 3 lbs per square foot sand range and rolled firm. Backed off to a lighter dressing, the same green plays at a friendly family pace. The speed is in the setup, which you control.
Why does the texturized yarn matter on a putting green?
Smooth yarns tend to lie with a grain, and grain steers putts. The texturized PP D-blades in EverPutt 81 are crimped so the pile stands without a dominant direction and locks the sand dressing in place evenly. The practical result is a roll that behaves the same from every side of the cup.
